ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications presented the Henry A. Gardner Subcommittee Chairman of the Year Award to Rey G. Montemayor, Ph.D., chief chemist in the Quality Assurance Laboratory, Products and Chemical Division, of Imperial Oil Ltd. in Ontario, Canada. The honor recognizes Montemayor's outstanding contributions to the operation of Subcommittee D01.35 on Solvents, Plasticizers, and Chemical Intermediates.
Montemayor lives in Camlachie, Ontario, Canada.
An ASTM fellow and Award of Merit recipient, Montemayor joined ASTM International in 1987. He is a former member of the ASTM Board of Directors and first vice chairman of D01, as well as a member of Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants, where he is chair of D02.08 on Volatility, and Committee D16 on Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Related Chemicals. Montemayor is also the former chairman and secretary of the S15 Coordinating Committee on Flash Point, which has recognized Montemayor with an Award of Appreciation and an Award of Excellence.
At Imperial Oil (formerly Esso Chemical Canada), Montemayor focuses on analytical chemistry related to the quality assurance and testing of petroleum, lubricants, and other petrochemical products. He has been part of the staff since 1979 and has been a quality control coordinator and a technical specialist for various product lines.
Prior to his positions at Imperial Oil and earlier with Quatic Chemicals, Montemayor held academic posts with the University of the Philippines, the University of Utah, and the University of Guelph.
Author of a number of reports and technical papers, Montemayor earned his B.Sc. degree in chemistry from the University of the Philippines and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from the University of Michigan. He was formerly affiliated with the American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi Society, Technical Committee 35 on Paint and Related Materials of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the Standards Council of Canada.
