ASTM Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications has honored Marshall R. Cleland, Ph.D., a technical advisor for IBA-RDI in Edgewood, N.Y., with the Peter D. Hedgecock Award. The committee cited Cleland, an ASTM International member since 1986, for his sustained and exceptional contributions to the development and use of nuclear-related standards.
Cleland lives in Hauppauge, N.Y.
After he earned his Ph.D. in nuclear physics from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., Cleland began his career as a physicist with the National Bureau of Standards. He then worked for many years, first as vice president and then as chairman, for Radiation Dynamics, Inc., before assuming his current position.
A graduate of the University of South Dakota with a B.A. in physics, Cleland is also a member of the American Nuclear Society, the American Physical Society, the Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
